Composition
  • Outer layer: Polyurethane film;
  • Central layer: Hydrocellular layer of polyurethane and polyethylene glycol (PEG);
  • Contact layer: Microperforated polyurethane layer.
Mechanism of Action
  • ALLEVYN absorbs excess exudate while maintaining a suitable moist environment that facilitates the healing process.
  • Its high absorption capacity is due to the central layer formed by hydrocellular polyurethane cells. The exudate is first absorbed through a capillary process and then by osmosis, passing the fluid from the intercellular spaces to the interior of the hydrocellular cells.
  • The outer layer is an impermeable film that acts as an antibacterial and fluid barrier and therefore prevents the possibility of contamination of the wound.
  • The absence of adhesive substances makes the dressing especially suitable for use on sensitive skin.
Indications

ALLEVYN is indicated for the treatment of granulated, exudative wounds such as leg ulcers or pressure ulcers that are in the healing process. It can be used under compression.

Instructions for use
  • Clean the wound according to the local clinical protocol.
  • Select the appropriate dressing size.
  • Prepare and clean the skin around the wound by removing any excess moisture. If necessary, remove excess hair to ensure contact of dressing with the wound.
  • The white contact face of the dressing should be placed directly over the wound. Keep the dressing correctly placed over the wound with the aid of a secondary dressing or bandage. ALLEVYN may be used in combination with venous ulcer compression therapy.
  • ALLEVYN can be cut, especially for the treatment of wounds on the knees, elbows, and other areas.
Dressing change
  • The ALLEVYN may remain in the wound without being removed for up to seven days or until the exudate retained inside the dressing is visible and approaches 1.5cm from the edge of the dressing or in case of overflow. During the initial stages of treatment, it is likely that the change will be more frequent. ALLEVYN's outer film is waterproof, which allows for patient hygiene without having to remove the dressing.
Dressing Removal

ALLEVYN is easy to apply and remove the dressing. The secondary dressing or bandage should be removed first. ALLEVYN should then be gently removed from the wound. ALLEVYN does not adhere to the wound so removal minimizes the risk of skin irritation around the wound.
